Book review #10

The Street Photographers Manual

Author: David Gibson

Publisher: Thames & Hudson Ltd
ISBN: 9780500291306

I picked this book up and put it down and picked it up and put it down. I then repeated this a few more times and the reason I did that was because I wanted to put into practice some of the subjects that were suggested.

I also wanted to take the time to look up some of the photographers that were mentioned.

If you want to jump into street photography or are already taking your first steps and are looking for some inspiration I’d say this is a good book for you. This is one that I will be keeping for further reference.

If you’d like some examples of good street photography then look up David Gibson buy the book and look up the photographers in this book but if you want a quick fix of some good street photography and a fine photographer that chases light and daily life in the streets then I can recommend urban and street photographer Are You Looking Closely.

Thanks for stopping.

Let me know what you think of the book and let me know if you visited AYLC.

Kind regards,

Jim Jimmy James

  1. When I started using an SLR, I bought a couple of instructional books by Ron Spillman. I also bought lots of books of the photos of well-known photographers (Cartier-Bresson, Capa, Tim Page, etc) just to look at their work.
I never really got into Street Photography, but do admire they way some people capture candids.
(The link didn’t work for me mate.)
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. I’ll have a look at the link. I think the good thing about some of these books and actually looking at other peoples work is that it helps you to see things slightly differently. Thanks for commenting.
